PUBLISHER: Marvel Comics
RELEASE: September, 1982

It is Valentine’s Day. I love you all so very, very much. Thanks for listening to our podcast. What ever happened to Truth, Justice, and Universal Love?

Hawkeye and Ant-Man know about universal love. They’ll save your ass for no reason, and they will even let the villain get away just so they can do it. They are fictional, but they are better people than you and I. Also Scott Lang is an Ant-Man that didn’t almost end the world multiple times.

We where a little worried about some of the choices made in SS #1. Oh we of little faith. This book was straight awesome, better than #1, even. Egg Fu on our faces.

Season 2: Grab Bag Special: That’s So 80’s! Get it? Its a “That’s So Raven” joke. It’s not very good. I’m sorry.

This week instead of our normal podcast we bought a grab bag of random comics from Astro-Zombies. The 80’s was a strange, strange time for comic books. The books we read are almost universally bad, but they all have something endearing about them. Give us a listen.

Reviews:

Boris the Bear #11

WRITTEN BY: Mike Richardson
ART BY: James Dean Smith
PUBLISHER: Dark Horse Comics
RELEASE: A month in 1987

Vestrymen Grade: C

Like most of the books we read this week there is a ton of interesting history captured in this book. The actual text is a little heavy handed, but this book is a black and white satire comic from the late 80s, what do you want?

The ‘Nam #17

WRITTEN BY: Doug Murray
ART BY: Phil Hugh Felix
PUBLISHER: Marvel Comics
RELEASE: April 1988

Vestrymen Grade: C-

The ‘Nam is a book that is boring, pointless and sometimes surprisingly painful, much like the Vietnam war. I suppose in that way it does its job well?

Evangeline #1

WRITTEN BY: Charles Dixon
ART BY: Judith Hunt
PUBLISHER: First Comics (Deluxe Series Imprint)
RELEASE: May 1987

Vestrymen Grade: C

This is a story about a nun fighting dinosaurs and possibly religious intolerance in a dark future, in space! She reports to Cardinal Zsn at the Vatican and sometimes shoots dudes in the back of the head. What more do you want out of life?

The Adventures of Superman #425

WRITTEN BY:  Marv Wolfman
ART BY: Terry Ordway
PUBLISHER: DC Comics
RELEASE: February 1986

Vestrymen Grade: C

We talk about the impact of Marv Wolfman’s name on comics for a long time. It is much larger that you expect. Also the comic reads a lot like Crisis on Infinite Earths. If you like that very second Crisis, go read this. If you, like us, find that Wolfman overwrites and under-produces, don’t.
